Leaving Facebook |
|
I'm posting this here, so that I don't have to keep repeating myself :)
I'm currently in the progress of deleting my facebook account, mainly because I'm worried about their privacy policy, and the lack of protection it gives you. Basically, *ANY* data that you enter can be used by them for any purpose, they will keep backup copies of data for a "reasonable" length of time, which includes data you've deleted, (infinity is a reasonable backup storage length).
Another reason, is how long it takes to delete your account. Basically, you have to remove EVERY SINGLE ITEM on your profile, one at a time. And that takes ages. I'd rather do that now, than to wait another 3 months before deciding I want out, and then having to delete even more items.
For more information on this (I haven't told you why "deactivation" isn't enough), see the BBC news article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7196803.stm
To the Ubuntu people reading this, Sorry I've not got round to writing about Ubuntu for a while! I will soon, I promise, though you may not like what I've got to say...
